Biography

 

Vojin Hraste was born on 10 August 1981, in Šibenik. After completing the classics programme at the First Gymnasium in Split, he studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts (ALU), graduating in sculpture, under the guidance of prof. Slavomir Drinković, in 2006. Having opted for alternative civilian service, he spent the next year at  ALU, working as an assistant to prof. Petar Barišić.  From 2007 till 2011, he worked as a T.A. (external associate) at the Art Academy Split. Currently, he is an associate professor (ALU, Department of Sculpture).

In 2004 he received the University of Zagreb scholarship for talented students. In 2006 he was awarded the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and the Award of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce for the best ALU graduates, class of 2005 - 2006. In 2014 he received the annual award of the Croatian Association of Artists for Best Young Artist. In 2015, he was short-listed for Radoslav Putar Award and won one of the three equally valuable prizes of the 12th Triennial of Croatian Sculpture. He is the author of several public sculptures, including the monument to football player Bernard Vukas (2009). He has taken part in many workshops in Croatia and abroad. In 2019, he spent one month on an artist residency programme in  Düsseldorf, Germany. He has also tried his hand at performance art and set design. In 2005 his work as a member of the Leut Magnetik music group brought him the prestigious Porin Annual Award, in the best album of urban music category .
