The Lost Son, 2008 The sculpture installation titled Lost Son consists of two elements - a dog and a hill, either of them carrying a smiley face LED sign. The signs are programmed to communicate blinking messages in Morse code. The massages are pre-made and reproduce a trivial conversation that took place between the artist and his mother, during his student days. The spatial dominance of the dog - man’s intelligent fellow creature, with whom he shares so many common features - is counterpoised by the large body of the hill, squatted in the corner of the room. The hill represents Nature as the primal habitat of both the artist and the dog. The subdued gallery lighting emanates a cave-like atmosphere, setting off the blinking smileys, that recall two lighthouses engaged in the exchange of messages of mutual recognition, need of reliance, and fear of alienation.
