The installation featuring a fish tank filled with water, a dead fish in a condom, and the Christmas tree lights, finds inspiration in Bowie’s Space Oddity, which tells the story of Major Tom who is informed by Ground Control that a malfunction has occurred in his spacecraft, but he does not get it, because he is in such awe of outer space that he does not hear the message. The work is a satirical tribute to Jury Alekseyevitsch Gagarin's one hour and forty eight minutes long stay in outer space. Along with the landing on the Moon in 1969, Gagarin’s feat is still considered the greatest achievement of modern time, and mankind in general. With his work, the author distances himself from this mundane measurement of success, and tries to assume the perspective of an extra-terrestrial intelligence. Dead fish in the condom is a mock representation of Gagarin in his pressure suit, among stars.
